How to set up JusProgDNS
Protecting children and teens from developmentally harmful content on the Internet through JusProgDNS is easy to set up.
Follow the step-by-step instructions below, which apply across all devices that provide access to the Internet. It also includes JusProgDNS’s name server IP addresses, which are entered individually per age level.
For frequently used devices we also have special illustrated step-by-step instructions under the menu item “Device Setup”.

Call DNS entry in the end device
Where in the end device the name server entries can be changed varies from device to device. However, it is possible in almost all Internet-enabled devices – whether DSL box, computer, network, game console, TV set, etc. For some devices we have prepared step-by-step instructions (click here). For other devices, you can find the information in the device’s user manual or on Google or Ecosia (search term: device name and “set DNS server”).
To be on the safe side, remember the previous setting (take a screenshot or cell phone photo), then you can easily switch back at any time and test JusProgDNS without risk.
Enter nameserver IP from JusProgDNS
You have the age levels from 0, from 6, from 12 or from 16 years to choose from. You surely know these age levels from the age classification of computer games, cinema or DVDs. The age levels are defined in JusProgDNS first by the selection of certain IP addresses, which you enter in the end device as name servers.
In most end devices you have to enter two IP addresses, they must belong to the same age group. This protects against server failures, because if one IP is not reachable, the end device automatically queries the other IP (JusProgDNS uses servers in different data centers). If you can only enter one IP, please choose the 1st IP of the age level from the following list.
If you have only one input field, enter the IP separated with dots, as it is given in the following list. However, if there are multiple entry fields per IP, the dots are omitted and you enter only the number sequences between the dots for each field. Please check the entry carefully, because in case of errors the JusProg name server cannot be reached and your end device can no longer access the Internet.

Register with JusProgDNS
By selecting the IP addresses that match the age level (see previous step) and entering them in the terminal device, you have selected the default age level for your child. However, you can only make personal settings, additionally enable or block websites or change the age level if you register with JusProgDNS. Registration is free and easy. We adhere to the data protection regulations and do not pass on any data to third parties.
Only with registration and login you can temporarily turn off the JusProgDNS protection and surf as a parent with the terminal without restrictions.
Note: Without registration, the daily usage quota per end device or network is limited to the usual number of website calls for private users. Schools and other institutions must register to receive a higher usage quota with the JusProgDNS service. For schools, daycare centers and all non-profit institutions the use is free of charge. For commercial users and e.g. large WLAN operators, a usage fee may possibly apply.
The JusProgDNS system is only suitable for concerns of child and youth protection and should/should not be used by corporate networks with almost exclusively adult users. The JusProg filter list is not designed for this purpose.
Enter fixed IP or set up DynDNS service
The JusProgDNS system recognizes your user account when your child calls up websites by means of the IP address that belongs to your Internet connection (not to be confused with the IP addresses that you have entered as name servers in your terminal device).
If you have a fixed IP address, enter it in your user profile after registration and login. You can also store several IP addresses.
Private internet connections with DSL box for example of the Telekom, of 1&1 or of Vodafone have however mostly no fixed IP, but this is changed by the Internet provider regularly. So that JusProgDNS still knows your current IP and can assign your usage profile, we offer a so-called “DynDNS service”. Please configure this service.
Tip: If the “DynDNS service” should not be able to recognize your dynamic IP (this is e.g. the case in mobile devices with mobile traffic and therefore often different IP), your child will surf in the age group that you have selected when entering the name server IP in the terminal (each age group is assigned special name server IP, see above), even if you should have possibly stored a different age group in your profile. Therefore, please always make sure that the nameserver IP matching the age group (see above) is entered in the terminal device.
Test
Before letting a child surf on the terminal device, first test as an adult (without your child present) whether JusProgDNS has been set up correctly and is working.
To test this, first call up the website of the children’s search engine www.fragfinn.de to test whether the end device can still surf the Internet. fragFINN is enabled “from 0 years of age”. Then call up the website of a well-known porn site, for example, and check whether a blocking page is displayed instead of the erotic content.
If the test is successful, you can let your child surf with the terminal. If the test is not successful, please check whether you have completed all entries and steps correctly and, if necessary, consult our FAQ.
Safe surfing space - but no substitute for media education
JusProgDNS sees itself as a tool for parents and other guardians that is intended to make it easier to introduce children to the Internet with protected and age-appropriate surfing spaces and can secure Internet access in schools and other institutions. But JusProgDNS is no substitute for the need to talk to children about the dangers of the Internet and prepare them for the digital world with its opportunities and risks through media education.
No youth protection program is technically absolutely reliable and unavoidable – not even JusProgDNS. But it offers protected surfing spaces for the media education of your children.
